Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team posted its sixth shutout win of the season on Saturday, defeating Milton Academy on the road, 7-0, at Trinity College.
The Tigers (8-3) led 2-0 after the first quarter, 3-0 following the second quarter and 6-0 after three quarters of action. Caroline Nemec, Kate Nemec and Delfina Gonzalez Lobo scored two goals apiece to power the Tigers. Vivi Caruso also tallied for the victors, who generated 11 penalty corners against Milton.
Having the long weekend ahead, it took us a while to concentrate,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “Milton was a good, experienced team, but we slowly outmatched them with our strong passing combination in the middle of the field.”
Kate Nemec and Gonzalez Lobo scored in the first quarter, then Caroline Nemec, tallied in the second quarter, making it 3-0. Caroline Nemec, Kate Nemec and Caruso each notched third quarter goals, giving Sacred Heart a commanding 6-0 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Gonzalez Lobo sealed the scoring and the win. Theresa Harkins and Helena Randolph were each in goal to earn the shutout victory.
“We started to dominate up front, which gave us lots of action inside the circle,” Gheorghe said. “We are looking ahead to our matches next week on the road against Loomis and Hotchkiss.”
