Brooke Heron hired as coach of the Greenwich High girls ice hockey team

Brooke Heron has been named head coach of the Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team Greenwich athletic director Gus Lindine announced this morning.

Heron replaces Alex Lerchen, who resigned at the end of last season after spending seven successful years as head coach of the Cardinals.

Heron was a varsity assistant coach at Darien last season and also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Wilton. A student athlete at Westminster School, Heron captained the ice hockey team, which captured two NEPSAC championships.

Following her graduation from Westminster, Heron continued her ice hockey career at Trinity College, where she was named captain of her team. During her collegiate career, Heron helped lead Trinity College to the NESCAC Championship in 2015 – the first NESCAC title in program history.

Lerchen’s coaching record at Greenwich was 86-45-12. This past season, (2020-2021) Lerchen coached the Cardinals to the FCIAC Tournament semifinals.

During his tenure, Lerchen guided Greenwich to two FCIAC Tournament titles (2016-17 season, 2017-18 season) and three appearances in the FCIAC finals. They also advanced to the semifinal-round of the state tournament twice under Lerchen’s leadership.
