Behind a strong first quarter, Greenwich High girls field hockey team defeated Fairfield Ludlowe at Cardinal Stadium

Greenwich’s field hockey team sports a record of 8-3, following its home win vs. Fairfield Ludlowe.

Seniors Isa Biagini and Justine Liguori scored two goals apiece for the Greenwich High School field hockey team in its 6-0 win against visiting Fairfield Ludlowe in an FCIAC game held on Wednesday at Cardinal Stadium.

The victory was the second straight for Greenwich, which has won four of its last five games and sports an overall record of 8-3.

“We played well on both ends of the field and we only let up two defensive corners,” Cardinals coach Megan Wax said. “We worked hard on quick ball movement and playing fast, which we executed well.”

Greenwich took a 3-0 first quarter lead. Liguori scored off an assist from senior Zita Cohen, then Biagini tallied off a tip-in on a shot from Liguori, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage. Cohen then scored, making it 3-0.

The score remained 3-0 until the Cards added three more goals in the fourth quarter. Biagini tipped a shot from Cohen, who set up a goal from Liguori. Senior Isa Lattuada capped the Cards’ scoring with a goal off an assist from senior Ana Florina Galic.

“Overall, we were very happy with the game and the energy and heart everyone played with,” Wax said.

Greenwich hosts Danbury Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
