Greenwich High School’s girls soccer team is making an impressive push for the postseason.
The Cardinals stretched their unbeaten streak to four games, defeating Danbury on the road, 3-1, in an FCIAC matchup held on Wednesday. Greenwich has won two straight games is 3-0-1 in its last four matchups and has a record of 5-4-2.
Currently, the Cardinals are in eighth place in the FCIAC standings with 17 points. The top eight teams qualify for the FCIAC Tournament.
In Wednesday’s game against Danbury, sophomore forward Julia Acosta and junior Meghan Ross each registered goals for the Cardinals. Isabella Gega, a junior goalie, made six saves for Greenwich, which also scored an own goal.
Cardinals coach Simon Rumbold credited junior Caroline Lawrence for pacing the team’s defensive play and senior Sofia DeVito and junior Ali Pennella for leading the team’s effort in the midfield.
Greenwich is in action again on Friday against Westhill at Cardinal Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
