Sacred Heart Greenwich completed its successful road trip on Saturday, edging host Hotchkiss School, 1-0, in a field hockey game involving two premier teams in the region.
The Tigers also topped Loomis Chaffee School and Milton Academy on the road recently. In Saturday’s game against Hotchkiss, Vivi Caruso, who has scored a lot of goals in recent games, tallied in the second quarter, giving Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead.
Theresa Harkins made two saves in goal for SHG, which drew eight penalty corners. Hotchkiss, which took three penalty corners, received two saves from Jordan Healy.
“Today’s game was a tough battle that demonstrated our team’s strength,” Sacred Heart senior captains Erin Griffin and Caroline Nemec said. “Our defense did a great job maintaining control, which then converted into our midfield and offensive play.”
“The midfield did outstanding work passing and connecting and moving the ball up the sidelines,” Griffin and Nemec continued. “As a team we worked really well together.”
Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe was proud of the team’s performance against such a competitive opponent.
“This is a big and well deserved win for us,” Gheorghe said. “Coach Hill and I would like to congratulate the whole team for their strength, attitude and hard work in today’s game.”
