
Greenwich’s boys soccer team extended its winning streak to five games and its unbeaten stretch to 10 games by posting a 7-0 victory over St. Joseph in an FCIAC matchup held in Trumbull on Friday.
The Cardinals record moved to 10-1-3 overall with the win, putting them in first place in the FCIAC with 33 points. Senior Alejandro Rodriguez and junior Lucas Luzuriaga each scored two goals to propel Greenwich.
Rodriguez scored the game’s first goal in the eighth minute off an assist from senior Andrew Lowitt. In the 21st minute, Rodriguez tallied again, this time off a pass from senior Jake Hugh-Jones, making it 2-0.
Hugh Jones notched a goal in the 26th minute, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. Luzuriaga scored in the 43rd minute, then junior Jacob Galvez, who also tallied twice, converted a shot in the 48th minute, putting GHS on top, 5-0. Sophomore Maximo Ferrario assisted on Galvez’s goal. Kwame Boateng, a senior, set Luzuriaga up for another goal in the sixth minute and Galvez’s second goal came in the 61st minute.
Greenwich, which is on pace to earn the No. 1 seed in the FCIAC Tournament, visits Stamford in its regular season finale on Tuesday.
