A hat trick by Justine Liguori and excellent ball movement powered the Greenwich High School field hockey team to a 5-0 win over Newtown in a non-conference late-season matchup in Newtown on Saturday morning.
“It was a fantastic game and we had the best ball movement we have had all season,” Greenwich coach Megan Wax said. “We played fast and with our heads up, so it was hard for any defense to slow us down.”
Liguori, a senior, paced the Cardinals’ offense with her three goals. One of Liguori’s goals was assisted by senior Isa Lattuada. Sophomore Hanna Klingbeil scored on a tip-in off a hard hit by senior Maggie Bulis.
Isa Biagini, a senior, tipped in a shot from sophomore Caroline Babb for the Cardinals, who raised their record to 11-4 with one regular season game remaining before the postseason commences.
Sophomore Kelly Janssen made two saves in goal for the Cards.
“Our defense was ready to step up strong and helped keep the ball out of the defensive end,” Wax said.
Greenwich visits Wilton on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
