Senior Erin Griffin and junior Vivi Caruso scored two goals apiece to power the Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team to a convincing 7-0 victory over visiting St. Luke’s in an FAA matchup held on Monday.
With their 10th consecutive win, the Tigers raised their record to 14-3.
“Today’s game was well-fought, as it allowed our team to work on maintaining possession,” Sacred Heart senior co-captain Caroline Nemec said. “We connected well on the field and focused on making simple decisions.”
Griffin, a senior co-captain, scored in the first quarter, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. A six-goal second quarter broke the game open for the victors. Caruso tallied off a Caroline Nemec assist, Delfina Gonzalez Lobo scored, Griffin added another goal off a Caruso assist and Nemec converted a shot, making it 5-0.
Junior Kate Nemec set up Caruso’s second tally, then sealed Sacred Heart’s scoring with a goal of her own. Teresa Harkins made one save in goal for Sacred Heart, which drew four penalty corners. Ginny Caceres made four saves for St. Luke’s.
“We are happy with today’s win coming off a Halloween weekend,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “The team responded well and was excited to be playing at home.”
Sacred Heart visits FAA foe Greenwich Country Day School Wednesday at 3 p.m.
