
Greenwich High School’s girls indoor track and field team certainly made its mark at the CIAC Class LL Championships.
Behind a first-place finish from sophomore Esme Daplyn in the 600-meter run and a number of other standout performances, Greenwich placed fifth in the team standings at the 16-team Class LL Championships held last Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
Daplyn claimed the gold medal in the 600-meter run for the Cardinals, crossing the finish line in 1:38.82, giving Greenwich 10 significant team points. Junior Kaitlyn Fay finished third in the 55-meter dash, posting at time of 7.43 seconds.
In the 1600-meter run, Elizabeth Anderson, a junior, had a seventh-place finish for the Cards, clocking in at 5:26.27. Teammate Anna Weiksner was eighth in the 3200 (11:59.91).

Greenwich’s 1600 sprint medley of senior Kayla Egan, senior Olivia Eslava, junior Haley Townsend and Daplyn earned the Class LL title with a time of 4:20.84. The Cardinals received an impressive third-place performance in the 4×200-meter relay, with Egan, Eslava, Townsend and Fay finishing third in 1:49.59.
Townsend, Eslava, Anderson and Egan took the bronze medal in the 4×400 relay (4:21.31). The foursome of Anderson, sophomore Cate Adorney, junior An Suzuki and Daplyn teamed up to place fourth in the 4×800 relay (10:02.51).
Greenwich, which tied for fourth in the team standings at the FCIAC Championships, will take part in tomorrow’s State Open at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. Daplyn is seeded first for the Cardinals in the 600-meter run.
