Six effective innings from pitcher Tommy Healey and home runs by Ryan Perez and Justin Zych powered Greenwich’s baseball team to a 7-1 road win over Norwalk in an FCIAC game held on Friday.
With its second straight victory, the Cardinals raised their record to 5-3, including 2-2 in FCIAC play.
Healey, a senior right-hander, allowed only one run on three hits in six innings of work. He struck out nine Bears batters to earn the win. Perez, a senior right fielder, went 2 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including a home run.
A senior third baseman, Zych also homered, had two hits and drove in three runs for the Cardinals. Greenwich scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third inning, two in the fifth and two in the seventh. Senior shortstop Tyler Cusimano was 1 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored, while senior center fielder James Babb went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored to also pace the Cardinals.
Greenwich hits the diamond again on Monday when they host FCIAC rival Fairfield Warde in a rematch of last season’s FCIAC Tournament final and the CIAC Class LL Tournament quarterfinals. The Cardinals lost to Warde in the championship game of the FCIAC Tournament, then topped the Mustangs in the Class LL quarterfinals.
