Greenwich High School’s boys tennis team kept its perfect record intact, edging FCIAC rival Darien, 4-3, in a road match today.
With the match tied at 3-3, it came down to first singles, where Greenwich’s Dylan Atkinson played Sam Donnelly. Atkinson, a junior, registered a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 win, giving the Cardinals the 4-3 triumph.
“Dylan played a fabulous third set, breaking twice to regain the lead and the momentum,” Greenwich coach Ray Marschall said. “Excellent individual and team effort.”
Darien received a 6-1, 6-2 victory from Teddy Callery at second singles. He defeated Greenwich’s Yuta Kawamura, 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, Ryan Benoit was victorious for the Blue Wave over Harrison Wolfe, 6-0, 6-1. The Cardinals gained a win at fourth singles from junior David Karetsky, who beat Anders Mueller, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, Cai Jain and Nicholas O’Brien of the Cardinals were defeated by Anders Hanson and Will Donnelly, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 2 doubles spot, Rohan Mittal/Ishan Ambastha of GHS posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Cards also got a straight set win from their third doubles team of Tristan Sowter and Manuel Galli Specos. The duo won their match, 6-0, 6-2. Greenwich is right back in action tomorrow against visiting Ridgefield at 4 p.m.
