Greenwich Academy’s field hockey team opened its FAA season in impressive fashion, posting a decisive 6-0 win over host Greenwich Country Day School in a game held on Tuesday in Greenwich.

GA was sparked by three goals from senior tri-captain/center midfielder Laetitia Cartellieri. Sophomore forward Caroline Busler, senior tri-captain/tri-captain Sienna Tejpaul and junior forward Brooke Bertrand tallied one goal apiece for the Gators.

Senior Ellie Volpe had the shutout in goal for Greenwich Academy, which hosts Choate Rosemary Hall on Wednesday vs. Choate at home at 3:30 p.m.

This past Saturday, GA played a nationally-ranked Hill School – No. 7 in the nation – team at home and was edged, 2-0. The Gators played well throughout the matchup.

“Ellie Volpe was in goal for us and played outstanding, recording 12 saves including a few goal line dives, powerful shots on and off the ground and thwarting 8 of their 9 attack corners,” Greenwich Academy coach Jamie Brower.

The game was a significant tune-up for the regular season for GA.

“Our girls shook off the nerves and played a very good second and third quarter, holding them scoreless and knocking at their goal but not capitalizing,” Brower said. “All in all, we were so proud of the girls.”
