It was a successful Senior Day for Greenwich High School’s girls cross country team, which celebrated the special day by putting the finishing touch on a championship regular season.

The Cardinals outran five teams – Wilton, Ridgefield, Bridgeport Central, Bassick and Warren Harding – at Greenwich Point on Tuesday to finish their regular season with a record of 16-1. Greenwich finished their regular season as the FCIAC West Division champion, marking the third straight season it captured the division title.

Winning the 3-mile cross country race at Greenwich Point on Tuesday was Greenwich junior Esme Daplyn. Daplyn finished the race comfortably ahead with a winning time of 19:08.27.

“Every year we get to celebrate our seniors in a special way,” Daplyn said. “They set the example, serve as great leaders and deserve recognition for all they’ve done to contribute to the team. As a junior, the meet was especially bittersweet because these are girls I’ve been with for the past three years. As a team, we are so happy we got to cap off the regular season in such a dominant performance, beating five other teams.”
