Scoring 38 first-half points, Greenwich High School’s girls basketball team evened its record to 3-3 with a decisive 58-35 triumph against visiting Amistad in a non-conference game this afternoon.
Senior guard/captain Sophia Sergio scored a game-high 18 points to power the Cardinals to their second straight victory. Greenwich was victorious against Brien McMahon on Friday night, 54-34.
“We were down two guards today but we were able to come out with fire and speed to pull off a convincing victory,” Greenwich coach Megan Wax said.

Laura Smego, a senior guard, totaled 11 points, including three 3-pointers for the Cardinals, who held a 24-8 lead on Amistad after the first quarter. Sergio scored 10 of her 18 points in the second half and made two 3-pointers in the win.
Freshman guard Madi Utzinger had 11 points, nine of which came in the first half for Greenwich, which entered halftime ahead of Amistad, 38-18.
“Our ball movement was fast and crisp and we continually pushed the tempo to get off great looks in transition,” Wax noted.
Junior forward Riana Xhekaj scored seven of her eight points during the final two quarters for the Cards, who received five points from senior forward Julia Monteiro and four points from sophomore guard Alyssa Gath.
