Receiving excellent production from its senior trio of captains, the Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team skated past Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe co-op, 7-4, at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink on Tuesday.
Senior captains Caroline Lawrence and Sophie Roth registered two goals and two assists apiece, while senior captain Peyton Jelinek added one goal for the Cardinals, who have won three consecutive games.
Greenwich, which raised its record to 3-4, scored one goal in the first period, before totaling an impressive six goals in the second period. Senior defender Hannah Wahl and junior forward Grace Popp tallied one goal apiece for the Cardinals, who received 17 saves from senior goalie Emma Kunschner.
Junior Lindsay Allen, sophomore Lexi Carino, senior MK Savio and sophomore Aubrey Roth each had one assist in the winning effort. Lawrence, a senior forward, scored the game’s first goal with 13 minutes remaining in the first period, tallying off assists from Sophie Roth and Allen.
Lawrence scored the Cardinals’ second goal 28 seconds into the second period, with Sophie Roth once again, setting up the tally. Roth scored at the 7:54 mark of the second period off a Lawrence pass, then had an unassisted goal with 5:27 to go in the second period.
Wahl, Jelinek and Popp also recorded second-period goals for the Cards. Up next for Greenwich is Senior Day against Stamford/Westhill/Staples at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
