Brunswick turned in an impressive team performance at the Fairchester Athletic Association Wrestling Championships, at Rye Country Day School on Saturday, placing second.
The Bruins, who have a record of 14-3 on the season, went 3-1 in the FAA Championships, which followed a dual meet format. Brunswick School registered dominant victories against Hopkins School, Rye Country Day School and Greenwich Country Day School in the tournament and lost to FAA champion Greens Farms Academy.
The championship tournament saw Brunswick beat Hopkins, 75-0, Rye Country Day, 83-0 and Greenwich Country Day, 78-6, in its first three matches. The Bruins were defeated by formidable Greens Farms Academy, 62-16.
Three Brunswick wrestlers earned FAA All-League Team honors: Freshman Quinn McGraw, who is 20-4 for the season, junior Whip Gorman (11-4 on the season) and freshman Michael Marini (20-9). Additionally, Alec Harned, a freshman (17-3) received FAA All-League Honorable Mention recognition by the coache.
McGraw avenged previous losses to his Hopkins opponent, including last weekend’s Brunswick Invitational Tournament semifinal-round match, with a 5-3 sudden victory overtime win. McGraw, who earned FAA All-League accolades last year, also had two pins, going 4-0 on the day in the 120-pound class.
Gorman, stepping into the varsity line-up for an injured senior captain in the 165-pound class, also went 4-0 on the day. Gorman earned a hard-fought 5-2 win by decision over his opponent from GFA and pinned two other opponents.
Marini took four forfeits for his team, while Harned went 3-1 on the day, including a 7-2 win by decision over a tough opponent from Hopkins.
Brunswick concludes its regular season on Wednesday, with a home match against Collegiate School at 3:30pm.
