Brunswick wrestling team concludes regular season with a 15-3 record, after pinning Collegiate School at home

Brunswick School’s wrestling team closed out its regular season in dominant fashion, registering a 58-14 home win over Collegiate School in a match held on Wednesday.

Despite missing several varsity starters, Brunswick was able to win 11 out of the 14 matches in the dual meet. Collegiate was also down a few wrestlers, forfeiting four weight classes.

Christian Yanoti (17-8 record on the season), who has recently stepped into the varsity line-up at 106 pounds, pinned his Collegiate opponent in the second period. At 113, Brunswick’s Matias DeBono (12-6 record for the season) earned a 14-1 major decision, while 7th-grader Jackson Shaw was called up to the varsity team and fell to a seasoned Collegiate opponent in the 120-pound match.

In the 126-pound matchup, Patrick O’Donahue (17-6 record) came out firing against a quick opponent from Collegiate. O’Donahue built a big lead, then won the match by pinfall. Michael Accetta of the Bruins (23-5 record) lost his 132-pound match, but teammate Enzo Vera (25-4) came right back with an 8-2 win by decision.

Alec Harned (18-3) got another pin at 144 for the Bruins, while teammate Travis Wilson took his 150-pound match by forfeit.

Jack Degl (25-5) moved up to wrestle in the 157-pound match against Collegiate’s captain, but the Bruins sophomore lost by major decision to his veteran opponent. Whip Gorman (12-4) followed with an 8-2 win for the Bruins.

Emil Sogaard-Srikrishnan (14-5), Jake Greene (4-3), and Tomas Delgado (18-5) each took forfeit wins for the Bruins, before Michael Marini (21-9) made quick work of his opponent with a pin in 21 seconds in the heavyweight match.

Brunswick will travel to Taft School on Saturday, to compete in the WNEISWA (Western New England Interscholastic Wrestling Association) Championships.
