After consistently producing impressive performances for the Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team, seniors Emma Kunschner and Sophie Roth each received All-FCIAC First Team Girls Ice Hockey honors.
Roth, who served as one of the Cardinals’ senior captains was the team’s leading scorer for their recently concluded 2022-22023 season. A senior forward, Roth sparked the Cardinals’ first line, scoring numerous clutch goals and generating a lot of scoring opportunities throughout the season.
Among her standout games for Greenwich this winter, were a hat trick in the team’s Winter Classic against Ridgefield/Danbury/Immaculate, a 6-4 victory and another hat trick in a 3-3 tie against Amity/Cheshire/North Haven.

A four-season varsity athlete, Roth also registered two goals in Greenwich’s 3-2 win over Hamden.
Kunschner was a mainstay in goal all season for GHS, starting every game as the team’s goalie. She rose to the occasion throughout the season, helping ignite the squad’s wins, while keeping them in the game in their defeats by making a number of saves.
Kunschner made 34 saves in Greenwich’s victory against Ridgefield/Danbury/Immaculate in the Winter Classic. Against Stamford/Westhill/Staples on the team’s Senior Night, she totaled 39 saves and stopped 25 shots in a victory against Hamden.
