Greenwich High School’s boys volleyball team earned its first win of the season by defeating Bridgeport Central, 3-1, on the road on Wednesday in an FCIAC match.
The Cardinals won the match by game scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12. Senior Ben Bowers recorded seven kills, 10 digs and one block to pace Greenwich.
Sophomore Hiro Sibble registered 36 assists, three aces and seven digs for the Cardinals (1-3). Keito Fukushima had 24 digs, while senior Ricardo Prada posted nine kills and one block in the winning effort.
Up next for Greenwich is a road match versus Stamford tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Cardinals will host Fairfield Ludlowe on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
In FCIAC baseball action held on Wednesday, Greenwich traveled to Staples and was edged, 4-2, as the Wreckers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Junior Tommy Passamano allowed four hits in four innings and did not allow an earned run for the Cardinals. Staples took advantage of four Greenwich errors in the win.
Senior Owen Lanzarone yielded one earned run in one inning of work for the Cardinals, who also received an inning on the mound from senior Michael Bocchino, who allowed one earned run.
Junior John McHugh was 2 for 4 with one run scored, while junior Troy Goodwin had one hit and one RBI for the Cardinals (1-6). Nathan Jones, a senior, also had one hit and one RBI for Greenwich, which hosts Norwalk tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
Luke Oakley went 2 for 3, while Hiro Wyatt had one hit and two RBIs for Staples (6-1).
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Greenwich took a 3-1 lead on Staples in the bottom of the first inning, but the visiting Wreckers took control of the game with a seven-run fourth inning en route to recording a 12-4 win on Wednesday.
Senior Ciarra Castro had one hit and two RBIs to pace the Cardinals. Junior catcher Campbell Clark was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Greenwich, which received two hits from junior Mia Gangi.
Sophomore Casey Natale went 2 for 4 and junior Megan Geiger had one hit and one RBI for the Cardinals, who will travel to Norwalk tomorrow for a 4 p.m. FCIAC matchup.
