
Seeded seventh, Greenwich High School’s boys volleyball team played second-seeded Trumbull close in the first two sets of the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday, before the Eagles controlled the third set and posted a 3-0 victory.
Trumbull won the match, 25-21, 27-25, 25-11 to advance to the FCIAC semifinals, where it will play No. 5 Ridgefield on Wednesday at Fairfield Warde High School. The Cardinals, who lost to the Eagles, 3-0 during the regular season, were paced by senior co-captain Ben Bowers, who registered nine kills and three digs against Trumbull in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Ricardo Prado, a senior co-captain, tallied six kills and two blocks, while junior James Kovac had nine digs for GHS, which received 16 assists and nine digs from senior Jack Konigsberg.
Elliot Staple, also a senior, had four blocks and three kills for the Cardinals (7-9). The season isn’t over for Greenwich. The Cardinals still have the CIAC Class L Tournament to compete in and the tourney begins on May 31.
