After opening the 2026 outdoor track and field season with a dominant win over Stamford, Greenwich High School’s boys team cruised past another conference opponent when Westhill High School visited Cardinal Stadium on April 21st.

Once again, winning almost every event, defending FCIAC champion Greenwich remained undefeated so far this spring, using its strength in each competition to earn a 104-46 victory against Westhill.

The Cardinals again, made their mark in the running events. Senior Noah Frankel of Greenwich won the 100-meter run in a time of 11.56 seconds. Grandjacques described the race and his objectives during the race, which takes a great deal of stamina.

“It wasn’t my best and the strategy was to go out fast and to get out in front,” Grandjacques noted. “I just tried to hold that lead for as long as possible. I knew that I had to get out fast if I wanted to get a good time, so I went out fast and then I tried to keep a consistent pace for the middle laps.”

“The last two laps, I just wanted to go as hard as I could and to push through quite a bit of pain and soreness,” he continued. “I’m pretty happy with my time.”

“I think that we do have a very strong team this year,” Mateo Grandjacques said. “We do have a lot of depth, we’re doing well in all our distance events. Our sprinters are doing very well with the upcoming talent and some freshmen.”

Of course, Greenwich has high expectations after winning the FCIAC title last season, marking the third time in four years the squad captured the conference title.

Defending FCIAC champion Greenwich is off to a strong start to its season.

“We have a strong look for the future,” Mateo Grandjacques noted. “If we keep working hard, we have a chance at winning the state title, the FCIAC title and having a pretty good State Open meet.”
