Generating goals early and often, Greenwich Academy’s varsity soccer team certainly left little doubt which direction its game against FAA foe School of the Holy Child was headed.

Displaying its depth at all positions on the field, the Gators scored six goals in the first 15 minutes of play, earning their second straight decisive early-season FAA win.

Senior forward Clemi Milligan recorded a hat trick and junior forward Tami Tobun tallied twice to power host Greenwich Academy to an impressive 7-1 victory over School of the Holy Child at GA’s Tammaro Field on Sept. 22nd. The victory followed a 6-0 season-opening 6-0 road triumph against King School for GA, which, as always has its sights set on competing deep into the postseason.

“Our goal is always to win the FAA Tournament and I’m hoping that we’re going to be in another good position to compete for that this year,” Greenwich Academy head soccer coach Kate Sands said, after the team topped Holy Child. “We’d love to make it past the semifinals of the tournament and make it to the finals this year. This team has the potential to do it, so that’s our goal.”

Greenwich Academy is captained by Maia Bostwick, Lavely Corbin and Clemi Milligan. The trio each return from last season’s successful GA squad, which posted an FAA record of 8-2-2 and advanced to the semifinal round of the FAA Soccer Tournament.

One season ago, the No. 2-seeded Gators were edged by No. 3-seeded rival Sacred Heart Greenwich in the FAA Tournament semifinals, 2-1. During the 2026 regular season, GA pulled out a 2-1 road win over SHG, so the two squads, will no doubt, fiercely contend with each other once again this fall.

Corbin is back as GA’s starting goalie. Thus far, the Gators have allowed only three goals over their first three games. Greenwich Academy traveled to Choate Rosemary Hall for a NEPSAC matchup on September 23rd and put forth a spirited/strong effort in a 2-1 loss.

“I’m super excited, we definitely had a lot of preseason to get us prepared,” Corbin said after GA defeated Holy Child. “It was a long time before we had our first game, but we came out strong and this game we came out strong too and I’m super excited for the rest of the season.”

Bostwick helps pace GA’s midfield and Milligan is one of the offensive sparks, as her three-goal game against Holy Child illustrated.

“We’ve had a really good run so far, we won 6-0 against King and 7-1 today (Holy Child),” said Bostwick, who has made a verbal commitment to attend Fordham University, where she will play soccer.” So far, the midfield has been really strong and I’ve been seeing a lot of improvement since last season. “

Among some of the other athletes leading the Gators midfield play are juniors Tian Ettelson and Katherine Higgs. Milligan, Tobun and junior Juliet DeStefano form a terrific trio of starting forwards.

“I usually play center forward or winger and I connect with Tami up top and Juliet and receive crosses from Juliet,” Milligan said. “I think we connected really well, we were passing as a team together.”

“We have very good forwards, so we were able to connect up top,” Milligan said, regarding GA’s triumph against Holy Child. “We were able to get forward and get the shots off, which leads to goals.”

Against Holy Child, Tobun scored the game’s first goal 3:51 into the opening half. The Gators took a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute and Tobun converted a shot from approximately 15 yards out, making it 3-0 in favor of the hosts with 32:11 remaining in the first half.

Ettelson shot high from about 25 yards out and found the back of the net, extending GA’s advantage to 4-0 at the 30:49 mark of the first half and Milligan tallied her first goal with 25:52 still left in the first half, upping the home team’s lead to 5-0. Meanwhile, Holy Child had few chances to generate any type of offensive threat, since Greenwich Academy held possession of the ball the majority of the game.

“Our speed up top is a strength and our defense is very consolidated in the back, so it’s harder for teams to get through,” Milligan noted.

DeStefano added an opening-half goal and Milligan tallied twice more to seal the Gators’ scoring against the Gryphons.

Corbin earned the win in goal and has been a member of the varsity soccer squad at GA since she was an eighth-grader. Sophomore Yardley Brunt and junior Lucre Berardi are among some of the team’s returning athletes on defense.

“We had a number of people playing different positions, but also new goal scorers on the board – it was great,” Corbin said of the Gators’ home victory over Holy Child.

Sands appreciates the leadership and guidance the team’s captains have provided, along with the upperclassmen.

“We have a big senior class, they’re doing a really good job, good leadership,” Sands said. “We’ve got a big junior class, returning a lot of players – returning a lot of our goal scorers from last season, so that’s exciting.”

Up next for Greenwich Academy is a road game against Miss Porter’s School on Saturday (Sept. 26) and a road showdown versus longtime neighborhood rival Sacred Heart Greenwich on Oct. 1st. The Gators and Tigers always bring out the best in each other, so the upcoming game should be another well-contested contest.

“This season again will be very competitive as usual,” Bostwick noted. “But I think we have a really good chance of winning the FAAs this year. We have a strong team at every position. The girls are really getting along well. I think this is one of the best teams yet.”

Bostwick, Corbin, Milligan, Delaney Enright, Skelly Lewis, Alex Piperno and Talia Bock are GA’s seniors. Corbin, Higgs, Berardi, Tobun, Ettelson and DeStefano are juniors, Cintron, Brunt, Martina Gomis and Catherine Riley are sophomores and Taylor Bruce, Paola Faleiro and Paola Faleiro are the squad’s freshmen.

“We’re always up for a challenge,” Bostwick noted. It feels really special to be a captain, especially for this team. It’s a great group of girls. Having one last season with them is going to be special. It’s going to be really sad to leave. But I’m really excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”

“Our goals are to win FAAs and also just to include everybody and integrate the grades a lot,” Milligan said.
