Greenwich High School sophomore Skylar Aysseh made quite a varsity debut for the Cardinals girls soccer team on Friday.
Aysseh scored two goals, powering Greenwich to a 2-0 season-opening triumph over Brien McMahon at Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals (1-0) came out strong from the start.
“It was a really good first half performance where we controlled the game and we were able to stay in the attacking half consistently through the half,” Greenwich coach Simon Rumbold said. “There were two really good goals coming from combination play between Sammy Craven, Meghan Ross and Julia Acosta, before crossing for Skylar to finish.”
Rumbold credited senior Caroline Lawrence, Ross, a junior, Brooke Wilkowski, a junior and junior Adriana Jones for leading the squad’s strong defensive effort. Acosta and Craven assisted on Aysseh’s goals.
Greenwich (1-0) is in action again on Monday against Fairfield Ludlowe under the lights at 7 p.m. at Ludlowe.
