Greenwich High School’s field hockey team evened its record at 2-2 with a decisive 8-0 win over Brien McMahon in an FCIAC matchup held in Norwalk on Monday evening.
The Cardinals were ignited by a four-goal performance by Klara Mueffelmann. A senior forward, Mueffelmann recorded four goals, all of which came during the third quarter, to pace the winning effort.
Sophomore Kate Donnellan also had a impressive offensive game, registering a hat trick for Greenwich, which rebounded from a tough 4-3 overtime road loss against Ridgefield this past Saturday.
Mueffelmann scored the game’s first goal 50 seconds into the first quarter. Her second goal came at the 13:02 mark of the opening quarter, then she tallied again with five minutes to go in the quarter.

Mueffelmann capped her four-goal effort with a tally with three minutes remaining in the first quarter, giving GHS a 4-0 advantage. Donnellan’s goal off an assist from junior Aly Janssen made it 5-0 with 11:39 left in the second quarter.
Donnellan added two goals in the third quarter and junior Caroline Babb notched a goal with 2:03 remaining in the third stanza. Senior Maddie Hoekman assisted on Babb’s goal. Junior goalie Kelly Janssen got the shutout win.
Greenwich hosts Fairfield Warde tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
