
Greenwich High School’s girls volleyball team earned a berth into the semifinal-round of the FCIAC Tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 win over visiting Fairfield Ludlowe in the tournament’s quarterfinals in a match played on Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded Cardinals (17-4) play top-seeded Darien today in the FCIAC semifinals at Fairfield Ludlowe High School at 5 p.m. Defending FCIAC and Class LL champion Darien have a long history of competing against each other in the postseason. Last year, Greenwich defeated Darien in the championship match of the FCIAC Tournament, then was victorious against the Blue Wave in the CIAC Class LL Tournament in the semifinals.
In Tuesday’s 3-2 triumph against Fairfield Ludlowe, Greenwich won the match, 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 15-6.

Senior Maggie Saleeby recorded 17 kills, 13 digs, four aces and one block to pace the Cardinals’ win over the Falcons. Katherine Ford, a senior, had 10 kills, 13 digs, three aces and one block, while senior Lucia Spanjol tallied 40 assists, nine digs, four kills and three aces in the winning effort.
Sophomore Alina Sarkissian added 11 kills and two blocks for Greenwich, which received 14 digs and three aces from junior Hayley Dionis and eight kills and two blocks from junior Kassidy Bonney. Should Greenwich defeat Darien today, it will play in the FCIAC Tournament finals on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ludlowe.
