Brunswick’s 2nd Varsity Eight crew struggled in some particularly big waves in the early part of their race and could not keep up with a fast Fairfield Prep 2V who finished almost five seconds ahead of Brunswick’s 2V.

The Bruins’ 3rd Varsity Eight boat notched another important league win. The crew of freshman Sam Veiner (coxswain), sophomore Henry Roth (stroke), freshman Connor Dahnke, freshman Quinn Evans, sophomore Jamie Schwarz, senior David Chavarria, sophomore Tony Zhu, sophomore Charlie Sulkowski and senior co-captain Tomas Jasson (bow) opened up a 10-second margin over their opponents.

Brunswick also won the 4th Eight event by open water. In the last race of the day, with the course shortened due to conditions, the crews were level in the opening part of their race. As the crews passed Captain’s Cove Seaport, Brunswick’s 4th Eight began to move away as they rowed out towards Black Rock Harbor.

By excelling in its races, Brunswick retained the Kulaga Cup in its competition against Fairfield Prep. The Kulaga Cup is named in memory of Joey Kulaga (FP ’19).

The Bruins will compete against Greenwich Country Day School on May 10.
